3-Member Committee Recommends Disciplinary Action Over Unapproved Charges at Ridge and KBTH

The seven-member committee tasked to investigate the alleged unethical medical practices including patients being charged exorbitant amounts for services at the Greater Accra Regional (Ridge) Hospital and the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital, has presented its report to the Ministry of Health.

The committee established some forms of unethical practices.

The committee, chaired by Dr. Inua Yusuf, Head of Legal Affairs, is among other things, recommending that Dr Stephen Marboah, who was reported to be at the centre of the allegations of unethical behavior at the Ridge Hospital, be subjected to disciplinary procedures.

They further recommended that other institutions be made to take up the issue of the payments in dollars to AXis pharmacy.

The Deputy Minister of Health Dr Grace Ayensu-Danquah received the report on behalf of the Ministry.

She thanked the committee for a good work done.

The investigation follows an exposé by the Fourth Estate, “Medical Kalabule” which highlighted systemic exploitation and corruption within Ghana’s healthcare system.
