
The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has announced that government has approved the payment of gratuity arrears for retired military personnel under Constitutional Instrument (CI) 129.
In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at General Headquarters, Burma Camp, Accra, the GAF stated that the approval follows engagements between the current Military High Command and the Ministries of Finance and Defence to resolve a long-standing impasse over the gratuity formula under CI 129.
According to the statement, the consultations have resulted in a clear two-year phased implementation roadmap.
Personnel who retired from November 2020 onwards are expected to receive arrears based on the new gratuity formula. Payments will be made in four instalments between February 2026 and December 2027, with the first tranche scheduled for release by close of business on Friday, February 27, 2026.
The Armed Forces indicated that a total of 238 officers and 2,155 soldiers will benefit from the first phase of payments. It added that all future retirements will be processed fully in line with
The development brings closure to a matter that had remained unresolved since 2020 and ensures that affected personnel and future retirees receive their full entitlements at the correct rate.
The Military High Command expressed appreciation to government for supporting the resolution of the issue.
