President John Dramani Mahama has unveiled plans for the construction of new housing units for Ghana’s security services, including the Police Service, Prisons Service, National Fire Service, and the Armed Forces.
The initiative, he said, is part of government’s broader effort to improve welfare and strengthen operational efficiency within the country’s security institutions.
The announcement was made at the Ghana Police Service’s annual end-of-year gathering, popularly known as WASSA, held at the Police Headquarters in Accra. President Mahama explained that the project stems from a Memorandum of Understanding signed during his 2025 visit to Singapore, which paved the way for the establishment of a prefabricated housing factory in Ghana to support large-scale infrastructure delivery.
The factory’s first major assignment, he noted, was the construction of a 10,000-student hostel at the University of Ghana. Building on that success, the company has now been commissioned to deliver housing for the country’s security services. We have also commissioned them to build housing for our Police Service, our Prisons, Fire Service, and the Ghana Armed Forces,” President Mahama said.
He emphasized that the initiative falls under the government’s Big Push Agenda, which seeks to accelerate infrastructure development across key sectors. The housing project, he added, will significantly improve accommodation conditions for security personnel, boosting morale and operational readiness.
The President urged security agencies to begin identifying land within their barracks to facilitate the construction process.
“Start identifying your lands in your various barracks, where we will build this accommodation so that we can provide enough housing for our police service,” he directed.
